Every so often, or if you’re lucky – never – writer’s block hits and it’s difficult to come up with content. Of course you’ve laid out whatever it is to conceptualize with the reader in mind, but finding a way to keep them engaged for the long term requires constant strategy. It comes down to incorporating ideas that gather new readers and encourage interactivity.
So, introduce difficult topics with easy to grasp concepts at least to establish basic mutual understanding unless you are dealing only with like-minded SMEs. Start by addressing various levels of readers’ interest and prior knowledge, unless you are somehow able to make the subject matter more generalized. This should prove to establish an ongoing relationship between the SME, or subject matter expert, and learner. You want the information to feel conversational, appear easy to read and prove to create memorable experiences.
Try a spontaneous approach first. Not only brainstorm, but verbalize your plan and then think over the concept. Create mood boards and perhaps even information maps based upon making logical conclusions. Chances are, you will have certain aspects of the content that you see differently with each step of the development process. Perhaps your opinions will change and until you realize each of the content’s concepts without question, add and remove content as often as needed or even start an all new one! If you have to start all over again, try conceptualizing the original approach by identifying the level of importance for each component.
